Be-twin. Relationship between two modules

From the very beginning, I want to emphasize that Be-twin is a serial collection of urban furniture—a collection entirely conceived and produced in Moldova. There are many other mass-produced objects made in Moldova, but their stories will be written by others. For us, this collection represents a valuable and significant experience—what started as a stack of sketches and design explorations evolved into a meticulously crafted 3D model, followed by detailed technical specifications, and finally, a workshop filled with molds, concrete samples, wood, and metal tests. Today, Be-twin consists of benches, planters, and waste bins, produced identically every day by a dedicated team at DecorStone.
Last summer, we met with the DecorStone team to plan a collaboration—one that would result in a high-quality product and bring a fresh perspective to urban furniture on our market and beyond. The goal was to develop a serially-produced collection using durable materials, with concrete (DecorStone’s specialty) as the central element. Since it was a modular collection, we aimed for replicable, adaptable components, easily configured for different layouts, crafted with precision and technology. And of course, ergonomics, aesthetics, and material quality were a given.
We started sketching. Far from the city, detached from immediate urban references, we focused on comfort and the relationship between subtle, interconnected shapes. The result? Two fundamental modules—pieces that, on their own, may seem abstract, even confusing. It’s difficult to associate their forms with anything familiar. However, when connected, they create a complete product: a bench, a planter, or a waste bin. A complex interplay of elements.
In short, Be-twin is a modular urban furniture collection built on the concept of twin, interconnected details forming a cohesive product. The bench is the core piece of the collection—crafted from two identical concrete components that bolt together, forming the base onto which wood and metal details are attached. This duality concept extends to the planter and waste bin, both derived from the same identical module, reconfigured with metallic elements to suit their functions.

The collection offers two main color options: White-gray concrete & Anthracite concrete. Depending on the concrete’s tone, the wood finish varies to maintain a balanced contrast. Regardless of the shade, the wood adds warmth to the design—a finely crafted oak, smoothly finished along its edges, perfectly fitting between the solid concrete modules.
The experimental phase with the molds is long gone. They are now stable and precise, and the concrete follows their form flawlessly. The oak is well-dried, oiled, and perfectly integrated, and the metal remains solid and unyielding. The production process has optimized its industrial workflow, ensuring that technological adjustments have improved efficiency without altering the product’s visible design. Today, everyone involved in production has mastered their craft, and while spring has yet to fully arrive, the DecorStone team is already proudly manufacturing this collection.
Visiting the factory to inspect the first production series is a revelation—analyzing, testing, fine-tuning details for improvement, marking components with a marker for future revisions, simplifying and optimizing assembly operations. In serial production, design is an ongoing process, continuously refined even after the first units ship to their destinations. This constant evolution ensures that the furniture becomes more functional, more adaptable to real-life use.
The result? A bench that’s great to sit on, beautiful to look at, and pleasant to touch (forgive our lack of modesty). If you ever find yourself checking all these qualities, it would be both a confirmation and appreciation dedicated to those who took on the challenge of mass-producing the Be-twin collection. This is no small responsibility, but one that will bear fruit—without a doubt. DecorStone has already launched the first pieces into the world, and we will continue to ensure that this collection evolves, improves, and earns the recognition it deserves.
